Local Businesses Get Quizzy in Aid of Nottingham Stroke Charity
Our annual quiz brought together businesses from across the City and the Midlands at Trent Bridge recently, in aid of the Nottingham Stroke Club, a charity affiliated with the National Stroke Association. We’re thrilled to have raised £1,970 and would like to thank everyone involved for their generosity. Over 15 businesses put their general knowledge to the test, turning out their best teams to take part in the event. Nottingham based Law Firm, Browne Jacobson LLP, took the crown as quiz champions, taking home the prestigious prize of the Russell Scanlan winner’s trophy. Other local businesses who took part included Chartered…

Continue ReadingIPT set to rise on June 1st
Managing Director Bryan Banbury warns businesses to take stock of the looming rise in IPT (Insurance Premium Tax) – the third rise in less than two years – but not to cut corners with their insurance cover in response. As of June 1st, IPT will rise yet again – a stealth tax which will inevitably hit hard working business owners and could persuade them to cut corners when it comes to insurance cover. We’ve known about this planned rise since last Autumn when the Chancellor announced his plans to hike IPT from 10% to 12%, marking the third rise of its…

As the investigation into last week’s global cyber-attack is launched in the wake of days of disruption, there are new fears that SMEs who do not prioritise cyber protection could be particularly vulnerable to repeat attacks. With the latest research showing that smaller businesses are more likely to pay ransoms to hackers, a Nottingham based insurance broker, Russell Scanlan, urges SMEs to invest robust cyber insurance policies to protect against the consequences of future incidents. As the sheer scale of the recent Ransomware attack on the NHS and other businesses over the past week is uncovered, it is no surprise that…

Russell Scanlan is proud to announce it is sponsoring the new Nottingham Restaurant and Bar Awards (NRBA) 2017/2018 – and this week was invited to the exclusive launch of the awards’ website. The NRBAs were historically one of the biggest and most successful events on the Nottingham calendar and after a few years off, they’re now back with a bang and have added a new category for bars in order to acknowledge their…

Commenting on her appointment, Samantha said: “Russell Scanlan’s broad range of clients gives me the opportunity to apply my experience and knowledge. Many of them operate in key sectors and are important, in terms of productivity and jobs, to the success of the Midlands Engine, which aims to boost…
Continue ReadingClient Briefing – Insurance Act 2015
It has always been a principle of arranging insurance that clients have an obligation to tell their insurers ‘material facts’. These are matters which insurers are entitled to know to enable them to decide whether they wish to provide for the risks you want to insure and if so, at what terms and conditions. The principle was supported by what is now the rather outdated Marine Insurance Act 1906. This legislation will be replaced soon by the Insurance Act 2015 effective from 12th August 2016. The new Act will modernise insurance law and aims to make it easier and fairer for…

We couldn’t be more delighted to announce that Russell Scanlan has been awarded prestigious Chartered status by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) – one of only 2 in Nottingham and a handful in the region. As Nottingham’s longest established broker, 2016 is already proving to be a particularly positive year. We are also celebrating our 135th anniversary and there are plans afoot to mark that occasion (but more on that in a following 1881). Bryan Banbury, managing director, was quick to comment on the news: “Chartered status is an exclusive title only awarded to firms which meet rigorous criteria. All Chartered…
