Insurer takes tough stance on fraud
Too often, we hear the comment that insurers would rather pay a claim to a Third Party when the client believes that the claim being made is exaggerated or fraudulent and should be fought more vigourously. The perception that the insurers take the “commercial decision” that it is cheaper to pay a claim rather than fight it has built up over the years and insurers have certainly been guilty on occassions of taking this approach.
It was pleasing to learn recently that a major insurer had not only rejected a claim made against one of our clients but had taken the step of appointing solicitors to make a counter claim against the Third Party who they believed had staged the accident for financial gain.
Insurance Fraud is a massive issue, and one that requires constant and vigorous fighting by insurers as ultimately it is the insurance buying customers who pay by way of increased premiums. Allianz should rightly be congratulated for taking such a positive stance, and lets hope that others continue to follow <span style=”\"display:” none\”=””>suit.
