Russell Scanlan supports the Save Your Pint e-petition
Russell Scanlan are supporting the SIBA backed e-petition against the beer duty escalator. The petition has now attracted over 40,000 signatures which is very good progress towards the 100,000 needed for a Parliamentary debate on the impact that beer taxes are having on Britain’s brewers and all the other British industries that depend on beer – especially our pubs. Around one million jobs depend on the beer and pub trade in Britain.
Since March 2008, beer tax has risen by a massive 42 per cent. For many people, a pint in the pub has become an unaffordable luxury and thousands of ‘locals’ have closed. Yet the Government continues to impose steep increases on beer tax, including the controversial beer duty escalator that adds 2% above inflation every year.
We need to show MPs the harm that this tax policy is doing, when a more favourable regime would create jobs, particularly among young people, and champion a truly great British product. We hope as many people as possible will support and sign.
