The Big Freeze

So much for getting off lightly this year with a milder winter! According to the latest forecasts, it’s set to get very chilly indeed this week with temperatures plummeting to a cool -10 degrees. And whilst many people will be putting on their thermals and winter woolies, very few will be checking that their businesses and homes are also adequately covered against the cold snap.

Independent insurance broking and risk managing experts Russell Scanlan warns people to be more prepared this time round to avoid the horrendous burst pipe scenario, car bumps and scrapes and widespread business interruption that led to chaos in 2010. This resulted in over 103,000 property insurance claims, at a cost of £680m. And around 270,000 motor insurance claims were made, costing £530m in dealing with damage to both personal and commercial vehicles.*

Managing Director of Russell Scanlan Bryan Banbury has seen and heard it all! As an insurance specialist for one of the region’s oldest heritage insurance companies (established in Nottingham in 1881, expanding into Leicester in 2007), he has a wealth of best advice and anecdotes to impart to the general public and to business managers and owners on the issue so they don’t just become another statistic.
