With effect from January 2011 a new law gives the DVLA the power to compare records with the MID (Motor Insurance Database) and if it is found that a vehicle does not have insurance the registered owner of that vehicle will face a fixed penalty fine of £100 plus risk having their vehicle clamped, seized and disposed of plus a court prosecution with a fine up to £1,000 – and that is on top of the powers the police already have to seize and scrap your car plus levy an additional heavy fine!
The message is clear…either properly insure any vehicle on the road or make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)…or risk severe consequences.
